The PCS House-Hunting Checklist
The checklist I give every military family buying from out of state. Print it, keep it next to you on video tours, and you'll catch the things a camera hides.
What’s inside
- What to line up before you look at a single house
- 10 things to check on every video tour
- Must-haves and deal breakers, agreed as a family
- Quick notes to compare up to three homes
- A printable 2-page PDF you can keep in your PCS binder

Frequently asked questions
- Can I buy a house at Fort Hood before I arrive?
- Yes. Many military families buy from out of state using video tours, an agent on the ground, and remote or mail-away closing. Some prefer a short house-hunting trip first. Talk with your lender early about closing with your orders before your report date.
- What should I check on a video tour?
- Ask to see every room and closet, the water pressure, ceilings for stains, and the yard. Ask about the age of the roof, A/C and water heater, and have your agent drive the commute to the gate at rush hour.
- Is the checklist free?
- Yes. Enter your name and email and you can read it on the page and download the printable PDF right away.
